Cross-Country Love
About three months after our dog Ruby died we were just starting to look at rescue sites at available dogs when Chris saw this picture on FB of a dog that a friend was fostering in LA. We fell in love w her face. Chris was about to leave for LA so we decided he should go and get her and he brought her home very soon after on the plane.
She was our first shelter dog. Our LA friend fostered her because Sally seemed so freaked out and scared and she feared that Sally would never get adopted from the shelter.
It’s been one of the great gifts of my life to watch her open up and have such a beautiful life and to be so loved and such a vital part of our family.
Ruby was the dog who was truly my best friend. Soon after I moved to Oregon from Chicago, I met Greg who had just got a puppy. We started to go out. He already had his dog Molly who he was very connected to. Ruby and I got very attached and eventually she became my dog.
Greg and I didn’t last for long but Ruby lived with me until the end of her life when she was 14.
